Playa El Silencio is one of the jewels of the Lima coastline, located in the Punta Hermosa district, just 45 minutes from Lima. Known for its white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, this beach offers a landscape rarely seen on the Peruvian coast, often compared to Caribbean destinations. Its name evokes tranquility, but its atmosphere varies from the calm of weekdays to the liveliness of weekends, when families, surfers, and groups of friends fill its shores.
Playa El Silencio is located in the Punta Hermosa district, Lima province, at kilometer 42-43 of the South Pan-American Highway. From the Atocongo Bridge in San Juan de Miraflores, the drive does not exceed 45 minutes under normal conditions. Its proximity to the capital makes it one of the most accessible options for a quick summer getaway.
Like the entire Lima coast, Playa El Silencio is at sea level (0 m). It enjoys a subtropical desert climate. During summer (December to March), temperatures range between 22 °C and 28 °C, with mostly sunny days and a sea breeze that refreshes the atmosphere. In winter (June to September), the sky is often overcast and temperatures drop to 14 – 18 °C.
Playa El Silencio is much more than a seaside resort. Its white, coarse sand, rare on the Peruvian coast, sets it apart from other beaches. Its calm waters in the southern part of the bay make it ideal for swimming, while the northern part offers consistent waves that attract surfers of all levels. Additionally, it has organized services, ample parking areas, and a gastronomic offering of fresh seafood. It is the perfect destination for those looking to combine relaxation, sport, and good food without straying too far from the capital.
Take the South Pan-American Highway heading south. Pass the districts of Chorrillos, Lurín and Punta Hermosa. The entrance to Playa El Silencio is at kilometer 42-43, with a well-marked turnoff. The road is completely paved. During summer weekends, it is recommended to leave before 8:00 a.m. to avoid heavy traffic and find parking easily.
Tolls: on the route there is one toll costing approximately 6.30 soles.
Parking: the beach has a large parking area. Payment is voluntary, according to local attendants.
From Lima, the most economical option is to take an interprovincial bus from the Mall del Sur (San Juan de Miraflores) or from the Atocongo Bridge. The company Etgusicsa, with line 8510, covers the entire South Chico route. The fare costs between 4.50 and 5 soles. Ask to get off at the El Silencio stop. From there, you can walk about five blocks to the beach or take a mototaxi for a cost of 3 to 5 soles.
Some tourism agencies in Lima offer full-day excursions to Playa El Silencio and other beaches in Punta Hermosa. These packages usually include transportation, lunch, and in some cases activities like surf lessons. It is a practical alternative for those without their own vehicle or who prefer a hassle-free arrangement.
The main attraction of El Silencio is its natural beauty. The white, coarse sand allows comfortable walking and easy entry into the sea. The waters, especially in the southern part of the bay, are calm and turquoise, inviting swimming and relaxation. It is an ideal spot for families with young children looking for safe bathing.
Playa El Silencio is recognized in the surfing world. According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), the beach features a wave that is a peak that can be taken on both sides, being better to the right. The waves break almost 200 meters from the shore, allowing gradual entry into the water. At mid and low tide, caution is advised with the rocks, locally known as "La Peluda". In the northern part of the bay, experienced surfers find challenging conditions, while in the southern part, waves are more moderate, ideal for beginners.
Fishing is another popular activity at El Silencio. From the shore, you can catch species like tramboyos, which are excellent for preparing parihuelas or sudados. Some visitors also rent small boats to fish offshore.
The beach has a small sand soccer field with free access, perfect for organizing impromptu matches with family or friends. The expanse of the bay also makes it a great place for running along the ocean, especially in the morning or at sunset.
At the top of the beach there is a boardwalk with sidewalks, a bike path, and stairs leading directly to the sand. It is a perfect space for walking, cycling, or simply enjoying panoramic views of the bay and the sunset.

Playa El Silencio has public restrooms for ladies and gentlemen, including showers, changing rooms, facilities for people with disabilities, and baby changing tables. A cistern system ensures drinking water supply.
Along the beach and in the surrounding area, you will find restaurants offering fresh seafood. Typical dishes include ceviche, fish chicharrón, parihuela, and rice with seafood. Local artisanal fishermen supply these establishments, guaranteeing product freshness. There are also small food stalls where you can get a refreshment or a quick snack.
Street vendors are registered and operate in defined areas, helping to maintain order and cleanliness on the beach.
