Huatuscalle Canyon is located about 40 minutes from the main square of the Luricocha district, at an altitude of 3,045 meters above sea level.

This impressive canyon has a depth of 1,100 meters and is the main attraction of the Luricocha district.

Huatuscalle Canyon offers breathtaking views of the valleys, basins, and ravines that form true works of art.

The canyons, peaks, rivers and streams, flora and fauna create simple and idyllic landscape scenes.

From the upper part of the canyon, one can observe how the three rivers Cachi, Urubamba, and Mantaro intertwine.

The canyon is home to a variety of flora species, including cacti, bromeliads, agaves, taras, muñas, pichus, sunchus, chickchinpays, armancays, capuchas, among others.

The fauna of the canyon includes species such as the Andean puma, fox, skunk, wildcat, weasel, muca, condor, eagle, kestrels, hummingbirds of different sizes and colors, china linda, among others.

🗺️ Access to Huatuscalle Canyon

Huatuscalle Canyon is accessible from Ayacucho, here are the access details:

  • From Ayacucho to Huanta: 47 km, 60 minutes by combi or private car, paved road.
  • From Huanta to Luricocha: 7 km, 16 minutes by combi or private car, paved road.
  • From Luricocha to Huatuscalle: 10 km, 23 minutes by combi or private car, unpaved road.
  • From the main entrance of Huatuscalle to Huatuscalle Canyon: 400 meters, 10 minutes on foot, trail.

The total distance from Ayacucho is approximately 64 km and the journey takes about 1 hour and 49 minutes.

📝 Practical Information

Huatuscalle Canyon is open all year round, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, free access.
