Alternative hike near Ollantaytambo
The Perolniyoc waterfall and Raqaypata ruins trail is a great alternative to the classic tourist circuits of the Sacred Valley. This hike offers a double discovery: an impressive 45-meter waterfall and an Inca archaeological site perched at high altitude, all in a spectacular natural setting.
It's a perfect experience for those who want to immerse themselves in the Andean nature and explore less crowded places, while enjoying a glimpse of traditional rural life and local wildlife (condors, eagles, foxes, and even, with luck, spectacled bears).
Technical description of the Perolniyoc-Raqaypata trek
The hike starts at the hamlet of Socma, accessible from Ollantaytambo. The trail first climbs gently before becoming steeper to reach the waterfall. The ascent continues up to the ruins of Raqaypata, offering magnificent panoramic views.
