Exclusive Interview with Alpamayo Tours – Transport and Tourism in Lima and the Peruvian Coast

Pérou Découverte talks with Gloria Poma, representative of Alpamayo Tours, in an exclusive interview about tourist transport, authentic experiences in Lima and the Peruvian coast, and their commitment to safe, flexible and sustainable mobility.

🚐 THEME 1: PRESENTATION AND IDENTITY

1. Gloria, to start, tell us the story of Alpamayo Tours. How was the company born and who was behind its creation?

"Alpamayo Tours was founded by my father, César Poma. He started working as a taxi driver for a taxi company in Lima. After some time, he had the opportunity to buy his own car and began doing airport-hotel-airport transfers for a travel agency. Over time, he started organizing small trips around Lima. In 2002-2003 he bought his first van, and in 2005 he formalized the company. Little by little we grew, providing various services for several companies."

2. What characterizes and differentiates Alpamayo Tours from other transport and tourism companies in Lima?

"What characterizes us is, without a doubt, our punctuality, the cleanliness of our vehicles, and above all our flexibility. We do not charge extra if the schedule runs a little over time, we are flexible with rates and we are very responsive to last-minute requests. We believe this makes the difference, especially in a city as large and dynamic as Lima."

🛻 THEME 2: FOCUS ON TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS

3. For transfers, especially to and from the airport, punctuality is key. How do you manage logistics to ensure everything runs on time?

"When a service is scheduled with a fixed time, we plan to arrive 15 minutes before the agreed time. This time allows passengers to settle in, store their luggage in the trunk without rushing, and leave on time. In addition, we check flight schedules by checking the system in case there has been a change. This ensures we are synchronized with the arrival or departure of flights."

4. For longer trips, such as Full Day tours to Paracas or Huacachina, what type of vehicles do you use and what services do you offer on board to make the journey comfortable?

"For Full Days and long trips, our units are equipped with reclining seats, protected windows, air conditioning, heating, GPS and on-board phone. In the larger buses we have chemical toilets, a water dispenser and courtesy candies for passengers. In addition, we are very flexible: we can modify the seating arrangement, for example, remove the last row to have more space for luggage or, on the contrary, leave more space between seats. We adapt to the needs of the group."

🏞️ THEME 3: TOURIST EXPERIENCE BEYOND TRANSPORT

5. I understand that during the pandemic you expanded your activities and now also offer organized tours. How has this evolution been?

"Exactly. Since the pandemic, we decided to expand our services. Now we not only offer transport, but also organized tours. We have incorporated group services limited to a maximum of 17 people to guarantee a more personalized experience. For this, we hired a bilingual guide (Spanish-English) who accompanies passengers on the tours. However, we still use our large buses only for transport trips, not for tours, where we prefer smaller, more agile units."

6. What is the most representative tour of Alpamayo Tours? And what other destinations, well-known or lesser-known, do you recommend?

"The most representative tour for us, although not necessarily the best-selling, is the tour to Caral. It is an impressive archaeological site, the oldest civilization in the Americas, and we are proud to be able to take travelers there.

Among the best-known destinations we offer are Paracas, the Nasca Lines (overflight), Pachacámac and the Magic Water Circuit in Lima.

And if we talk about a lesser-known but very special place, I would recommend the Laguna de Morón in Ica. It is a hidden oasis worth discovering."

👥 THEME 4: AUDIENCE AND PERSONALIZATION

7. What type of traveler usually chooses Alpamayo Tours?

"We mainly receive couples and families. We also work with pre-formed groups sent by travel agencies from other countries. The audience is varied, but they all value the safety, punctuality and personalized attention we offer them."

🌿 THEME 5: SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT AND SOCIAL ACTION

8. Beyond the service, what responsible tourism policies do you apply on a daily basis, both in the office and in your vehicles?

"For us, it is important to care for the environment. In our office, we avoid the use of paper as much as possible. For washing vehicles, we use a machine that reduces water consumption and a special shampoo that is less polluting. On the buses, there are small trash bins and we separate plastics for recycling.

In addition, the maintenance of the units is always up to date, which also helps reduce emissions."

9. Do you carry out any social or community support work?

"Yes, at the end of the year we provide social support to a community in Pachacútec. We bring clothing, school supplies and other donations. We also collaborate with different places according to the needs we see. It's our way of giving back a little to those who need it most."

🛡️ THEME 6: MANAGING UNFORESEEN EVENTS

10. Lima is a city with complicated traffic and sometimes there are strikes or roadblocks. How do you handle this type of unforeseen events?

"When there are strikes or blockades, we always look for the best options for our passengers. For example, if we know there will be problems on the roads, we ask passengers to leave as early as possible within the city tour time slot to get ahead of the blockades. Our operations team constantly monitors the situation to make the best decisions."

📞 THEME 7: CONTACT AND COLLABORATION

11. Finally, how can travelers and international agencies contact Alpamayo Tours to book a transfer or a tour?

"They can contact us through our website: https://alpamayotour.com/

By email: reservas@alpamayotour.com

Or by WhatsApp at: +51 993 452 309

We are also on social networks. For international agencies, we are very open to establishing commercial partnerships and offering preferential rates. Our goal is to be your strategic partner in Lima and on the Peruvian coast."
