We spoke with Victor Ramos, founder of Sisariy Wasi in Cusco, to learn about the history, the meaning of its name, and his vision of hospitality.
1 Victor, could you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background in the tourism sector?
My experience in tourism began in the field of adventure tourism. I worked as a cook for groups doing different trekking routes.
In 2015, I decided to step back a bit from adventure tourism and bought a vehicle to start working in tourist transportation. Little by little, I gained more experience and knowledge in the sector, and that's how I developed the idea of also offering accommodation for travelers.
2 How did the idea of creating Sisariy Wasi finally come about?
The apartment is located in a quiet area of Cusco. Additionally, I had friends who were already hosting travelers and renting houses or rooms to tourists. Their experiences encouraged me and helped me think that I could also develop this type of project.
Since I also have experience and knowledge in the tourism sector and have friends and contacts who work in this field, I finally decided to launch Sisariy Wasi.
3 The name Sisariy Wasi has a special meaning. Why did you choose it?
I speak Quechua and wanted the name to have a special meaning. "Sisari" means "to bloom" in Spanish, while "wasi" means "house".
Since it is a new accommodation, just starting its activity, I thought it was an appropriate name to represent the beginning and growth of this project.
4 What did you want to offer travelers by creating a completely independent and private apartment?
The main idea is that people feel comfortable, free, and at home.
I don't have a particular preference for any type of traveler. Families, couples, friends, small groups, or solo travelers, all are welcome. What matters to me is that those who stay at Sisariy Wasi can feel good, have their own space, and enjoy freedom during their stay, without being subject to the usual hotel schedules.
5 What do you like most about the location of Sisariy Wasi?
It is a quiet area and one of its attractions is the beautiful view over the city of Cusco.
Additionally, there is a small archaeological area very close to the apartment, as well as restaurants and small shops where travelers can find what they need without having to travel too far.
Sacsayhuamán is also relatively close. You can get there in a few minutes by vehicle and it's even possible to walk up.
To get to the center of Cusco by taxi, the journey usually takes about ten minutes, depending on traffic, and the price can be around 10 soles.
6 The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, living-dining room, and washing machine. Why did you consider these spaces important?
The idea is to make travelers' stays easier and allow them to feel comfortable for several days.
If a person is tired and doesn't want to go out, they can prepare something in the apartment itself. Additionally, there are small shops nearby where they can buy what they need.
For me, it's about offering a practical and comfortable space, where travelers can organize their stay freely and truly feel at home.
7 You know the tourism sector well. How do you support travelers staying at Sisariy Wasi?
I am still involved in the tourism sector and have many friends and acquaintances working in different areas of tourism. This allows me to guide travelers and help them when they need a service.
In addition to Spanish, I have basic knowledge of English and French, which also allows me to communicate with foreign travelers.
My goal is to be available to help and support guests when they have any questions or need guidance during their stay.
8 Sisariy Wasi has just started its activity. What feedback have you received from your first guests?
Since I started very recently, I haven't received many travelers yet.
However, the first people who stayed at Sisariy Wasi left happy and told me that they felt at home.
For me, that is very important, because that is precisely the experience I want to offer.
9 What advice would you give to someone visiting Cusco for the first time?
The first thing I recommend is to take at least one day to acclimatize and rest due to Cusco's altitude. It is also advisable to eat lightly during the first few days.
You need to be especially careful around the city center with some people who offer tours pretending to be travel agencies, when they are not. Deceptive situations can sometimes occur, so I recommend travelers to get well informed before booking an excursion.
And of course, if they have any doubts, they can ask me. I am available to guide and help them.
10 Which places in Cusco and its surroundings do you especially recommend discovering?
Of course, there are the great classics of Cusco and the region: the Sacred Valley, with towns like Pisac and Ollantaytambo, the different archaeological sites in the surroundings, and naturally, Machu Picchu.
But for those who have more time, I also like to recommend lesser-known places.
One of them is Quillarumiyoc, located on the route to the Chonta canyon. It is a day trip that can be a very good alternative for those who haven't visited the Colca canyon and want to discover another landscape and another aspect of the Cusco region.
I also recommend visiting Tarawasi, another interesting archaeological site in the region.
Another place I recommend is the Inkilltambo Archaeological Center or Inca Cárcel, accessible from the Temple of the Moon area.
Wakrapukara is also a very interesting archaeological site that is becoming increasingly well-known. There is now a new road that significantly reduces the walking distance to the site.
Finally, Huchuy Qosqo is an excellent option for those who enjoy nature activities and want to combine the discovery of an archaeological site with a hiking or trekking experience.
11 What are your plans for the future of Sisariy Wasi?
For now, my goal is to continue improving Sisariy Wasi and adding small details that could make the stay of travelers even more pleasant.
I also have a small house that is relatively close and that I would like to renovate in the future to also host tourists.
But above all, I want to continue welcoming people with open arms and making them feel at home.
12 Victor, I believe you have decided to offer an exclusive gift to Pérou Découverte readers who wish to book your apartment. Can you tell us more about it?
Yes, it's a decision I made spontaneously because it reflects my personality and my approach to hospitality. I like to bring that little "extra" that makes the difference.

13 To finish, what would you like travelers to remember about their stay at Sisariy Wasi?

I want them to feel free, comfortable, and at home.
🌿 A new chapter for Sisariy Wasi
