Hiking and Swimming in Mallorca

Top 5 Best Beaches and Coves in Mallorca

Article written by Anne, Photographer and Blogger

Mallorca is the largest island of the Spanish Balearic archipelago, located in the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its hikes in the Serra de Tramuntana as well as its many coves accessible on foot. Here, I offer you an overview of the 5 best beaches in Mallorca. These are beaches accessible only by a short hike (or by boat) where snorkeling is possible. I highly recommend bringing plenty of water, as the trails and beaches offer little shade. Water shoes will be useful to swim without hurting your feet.

1) Cala Marmols

Cala Marmols (a beautiful cove with sand and rocks) can be reached from the southern tip, at the Ses Salines lighthouse.

You need to walk for about an hour and fifteen minutes along the coast to reach the cove.

The islets of La Cabrera are visible at the beginning of the hike.

There is very little shade along the way and at the beach.

The water is stunning and shallow at the shore.

2) Playa Coll Baix

A 45-minute walk leads to Playa Coll Baix (sand and pebbles), located in the north of the island (Alcudia region).

The trail is mostly through the forest and then continues over rocks along the sea.

Some parts require using your hands to climb over rocks, but it is quite manageable.

The beach features gray sand and pebbles and stretches for more than 200 meters.

3) Cala Magraner

Cala Magraner is a white sand beach located on the east coast, near Cales de Mallorca.

The trail to Cala Magraner also leads to other coves (Cala Bota, Cala Virgili, Cala Pilota).

It takes about 40 minutes to walk to the cove.

In good weather, the water is crystal clear. It is also a rock climbing site.

4) Playa Es Caragol

The beautiful sandy beach of Es Caragol is located at the southernmost part of the island.

From the Ses Salines lighthouse, it is a short 20-minute walk to reach the beach.

This large golden sand beach stretches for about 500 meters.

5) Cala Boquer

Cala Boquer is located in the north, near Port de Pollença.

It takes 35 minutes from the starting roundabout to reach this beautiful cove made of rocks (with very little sand).

Close to Cap de Formentor, it is a lovely and fairly popular walk.

Mallorca offers many more beautiful hikes, beaches, or mountains to explore depending on your mood.
